North River Wastewater Treatment Plan – New York Engineering Projects

Ryan Engineers designed a highly-unique system of concrete ductwork to support ventilation at the North River Sewage Plant on 125th Street in Manhattan during a $1 billion project.

Additionally, Bill Ryan designed the laboratory hood in this plant capable of processing millions of gallons of raw sewage per day, and designed a cooling system not using a cooling tower to eliminate the threat of Legionnaires disease.

Specialty Engineering Services:

Designed a custom HVAC system using water-cooling to maintain a 20,000 square-foot computer room (at the time, the largest non-IBM 3090 water-cooled mainframe system in the world) for the Prodigy Support Center in Yorktown Heights.

Bill Ryan’s use of variable frequency drives on the cooling towers was highly innovative for the time, and it enabled him to complete the project at a reasonable cost.

HVAC Design & Specialty Engineering Services:

Designed ultra-quiet HVAC system for the first four all-digital radio stations in their building on 6th Avenue. This project was performed in conjunction with an acoustical expert to maintain broadcast quality, which was complicated by the location of the HVAC adjacent to the control room.

Urgency was the order of this complex engineering project. Ryan Engineers ensured that the work, normally considered a two-year project, was completed in three months.
